Pet Vaccinations Are Important for Protecting Your Pets
Pet vaccinations are a veterinary service offered in our animal clinic as part of puppy and kitten care. Young pets should be vaccinated in order to protect them from infections and diseases that dogs and cats are susceptible to at any age; but especially the puppy and kitten stage.
Arch Creek Animal Clinic at our North Miami Beach veterinarian will counsel you on the right pet vaccinations for your particular to make sure they are protected.
North Miami Veterinarian Offers Vaccinations for Cats and Dogs
Cats and dogs, like humans require vaccines to guard them against debilitating illness and disease; even older pets require “booster” shots to keep them protected. Pet vaccinations are typically administered to cats and dogs when they are 6-8 weeks old and the series of vaccines are given 2-3 weeks a part. Core vaccines are the most common series of vaccinations given to household pets. These general vaccines shield your animal against common diseases such as distemper, rabies and hepatitis for dogs, feline herpesvirus (FHV), feline calicivirus (FCV) and rabies for cats. Non-core vaccines are generally for special circumstances depending on your pet’s environment. These vaccines are administered to outdoor pets and pets that are often around other animals.
Your pet may have some reaction to certain pet vaccinations and there may be some risk. Most adverse responses are mild and short-term with conditions such as fever, sluggishness and loss of appetite. Your pet may also experience mild pain and swelling at the vaccination site. Their reactions should only last a couple of days; symptoms lasting longer should be addressed right away by our veterinarian. Serious reactions are rare but include vomiting, diarrhea, itching and swelling of the face or legs. Not vaccinating your pets leaves them at risk for fatal illnesses. If you pet has an allergic reaction to their vaccine then contact our veterinarian immediately and get them to our animal clinic or the nearest veterinary urgent care facility for treatment.
Our North Miami veterinary staff will provide you with the latest information about vaccines and counsel you on the right vaccines for your pet according to their personal needs and environment. It is important to remember that while pet vaccination is not without risk, failure to vaccinate leaves your pet vulnerable to fatal illnesses that are preventable. Let our animal clinic help protect your pets and allow them be a part of your family for a long time.
We will examine your dog or cat and make sure they get the right pet vaccinations for their lifestyle and age. Our office will keep records of your pet’s vaccines and remind you when they are due for immunizations. In addition to vaccines, Arch Creek Animal Clinic serving the greater North Miami Beach area including Aventura, Miami Shores and Sunny Isles provides general puppy and kitten care, spay and neuter services and pet dental services, as well as orthopedic surgery for animals and pet senior care.
